A bit of a strange expression really. And isn’t it contradictory? Struck is usually associated with something unpleasant. It has an element of finality to it: one last blow and after that, it’s over and done with. Wouldn’t it rather be an act of grace if that final blow didn’t come? However, according to Arie de Rover, receiving a heavy blow has everything to do with grace. “Grace is lethal. It kills your ego, every last certainty you thought you had in this life, your sense of justice.” Once you have grasped the concept of grace, your life will make a U-turn. You are struck by grace. You will not just receive a slap on the wrist, or a smack in the eye – a mere snub – but a life-changing sledgehammer blow.

Arie de Rover (1961) is a counsellor and a public speaker in churches and at conferences. He desires to start a ‘movement of grace’.

Wilfred Hermans (1984) is a journalist and a copy writer. He assisted Arie in writing this book.

“Arie de Rover’s book is a simple yet moving account of how an understanding of God’s grace through Christ can be life-transforming. It will be especially compelling to those living in the pressured world of competitive professionals.” Tim Keller , Redeemer Presbyterian Church, New York City
